Principal's Message

After today, we have just 15 school days remaining in the school year! In this final edition of monthly newsletters, you will find important information about upcoming end-of-year trips and activities, as well as summer reading tasks.

The last day of school is on June 19th and this is an Early Release (12:05) for students. The last day of late buses is on June 4th.

Returning (and new) families can expect communication from me in mid-July regarding grade-level supply lists and again in mid-August with welcome-back information. Snapshot of Spring Celebrations

We are excited to celebrate our students and all of their hard work, growth, and accomplishments this spring. Over the coming weeks, students will have opportunities to participate in a variety of celebrations, activities, and special events that recognize their efforts and help us close out the year together in a positive and memorable way.

  • After only having 2 regular season meets, the Cougars brought everything they had to Manchester High on Saturday to show the state what they had to offer. The TEMS Boys Track and Field Team are BACK TO BACK STATE CHAMPIONS! The TEMS Girls Track Stars ended the season with a strong 6th place overall in states. Timothy Edwards was absolutely DOMINANT in the hurdles. Our very own Caiden Green finished FIRST in the state, while Dip Rout finished right behind him clenching a second place finish. A huge congratulations goes to our 4x100 relay team of Harper Kelly, Mia LeRoy, Sarah Krivickas, and Sasha Staroverov for becoming STATE CHAMPIONS and bringing home a 1st place finish for our school!
  • The Cougars softball team simply dominated the field game after game this season. Ending the regular season undefeated, they headed to the playoffs starting with a big win against Ellington. On Monday, they will end the season at the CRAL Championship being hosted at Sage Park.
  • The regular season of baseball ended with the Cougars firmly on top. With a record of 10-2 heading to the playoffs, the players held it down against Sage Park and head to the CRAL Championship at 5:45 tonight at Rotary Field!!
  • Congratulations to all the TEMS Debaters who traveled to Central Middle School in Greenwich on Saturday to compete in the final tournament of the Connecticut Middle School Debate League.
  • Several TE students were recognized at UConn for their submissions to the UConn Writing Project. The seventh grade had 21 total submissions recognized. This was one of the strongest years we've had at TE!
  • TEMS Spotlight Show Choir delivered a PLATINUM level performance this month as part of this year's Fantastic Festivals competition!!! Our talented musicians scored an impressive 95/100!!!!
  • Choir, orchestra, and band all hosted impressive showcases during their respective spring concerts!
  • A groups of seventh graders (Aradhya Deepa, Senthil Kumar, Don Emma Wickramasinghe, Julia Marvin, Kaylee Johanns, Kenan Abaza, and Pravarsh Raja) have been invited to work with muralist Metthew Pelletier to bring a 40 feet work of art to the Common Area B hallway. I can't wait for this to come to life!
  • Grade 8 promotion will feature award recipients across each team but we are happy to share that Claire Kaminski was recently honored as the 2026 Superintendent’s Award recipient. Also, on May 18th Emily Bryan and Shrey Thigale were recognized as the 2026 CAS Scholar Leaders.

Helping My Child Learn: Foster Ownership

Tip #4: Help Them Find Their Why
Ownership comes when a student sees education as a tool for their own goals, not just a requirement. Help your child find a purpose that inspires them to be innovative and go above and beyond. School will be out soon and summer will be here; what a great opportunity to talk to your child about a few topics/classes they liked this year. Use this information for summer enrichment and future aspirations.

Possible questions:
  • This past year, what is the one activity, assignment, or unit that excited you?
  • If you had a completely free Saturday with no chores or screens, what’s the first thing you’d want to go do?

Grade 8 Promotion and Dance on June 18th

Our 8th graders will take part in a promotion ceremony during the school day schedule by team at the following times:

  • Indigo: 8:30 AM
  • Pacific: 10:00 AM
  • Cobalt: 11:30 AM
  • Navy: 1:00 PM

A Few Important Notes:
  • All students should arrive at school at the regular start time.
  • Parking for guests will be in Lot B. Overflow parking is available in Lot D and at the old Orchard Hill Elementary School.
  • The promotion ceremony will take place in the TEMS auditorium. Doors will open approximately 15-20 minutes prior to the ceremony. Please enter the building through Entrance C. Keep in mind that our normal school arrival time (7:45-8:05 AM) is very busy and there is high traffic volume at that time. Plan accordingly.
  • Once the ceremony has concluded, immediately exit the building using Entrance B so we can prepare for our next group.
  • If you plan to take your child home directly after promotion, it is important to complete this form by June 16th.
  • We cannot allow families to gather for pictures inside the building, but you are welcome to take them outside. Thank you for your cooperation!
  • The 8th-grade dance will take place in the TEMS cafeteria on June 18th. Students must check in upon arrival at 6:00 PM, and they must have a ride home at 8:00 PM. The dance will be chaperoned by TEMS staff members. There are no guests allowed. Students are asked to dress nicely for this special celebration. Once again, this event was funded by our generous PTO!

Transportation Forms 2026-2027

The 2026-2027 Transportation Information Form (TIF) is now available for completion. A completed TIF is required for all SWPS students except for Role Model POP children, Hartford Choice children, and those children attending The PLC.  This electronic form can be found by logging into your PowerSchool Parent Portal account, located in the "Forms" section. If you have any difficulty in accessing your account, please contact the school's main office for assistance.

Bus stops are determined by this form therefore, it is extremely important this form is completed no later than June 30th to allow for the timely creation of the 2026-2027 bus routes.  Please know this form can be updated and/or changed at any time, however, no changes will be processed between the moratorium dates of 8/19/26 to 9/01/26. Please allow five (5) school days to process any changes.

If transportation changes are needed for the current school year or if you have any questions regarding the TIF, please email or call Marlene Pouliot, Transportation Coordinator, at mpouliot@southwindsorschools.org or (860) 291-1252.

PTO Updates: Next Year's Board Positions and Volunteer Opportunities

The PTO would like to share special appreciation to the families who have done so much to support TEMS this year. Staff Appreciation Week was a huge success thanks to the incredible generosity of our community. The PTO extends warm wishes for a fun and restful summer!

As we begin planning for next school year, we encourage families to consider open treasurer board position with our PTO. Visit the TEMS PTO website for more information, to join the PTO, and to volunteer.

The PTO is a wonderful way to stay connected to your child’s school experience during the important middle school years while supporting activities and opportunities for all students. We are grateful for the time, ideas, and support our families bring to our school community!

The first meeting of the year will be on September 17th at 6:00. Also, be sure to stop in to see the PTO in the library during Open House in September!
