I am feeling a bit of déjà vu sitting to write this month's newsletter - ending another month that has been punctuated by lots and lots of snow. The good news is that spring is on the way...eventually.
Monday marks the midpoint of Quarter 3 so this is a great time to check you child's grades in PowerSchool. Please continue to encourage your child to stay engaged as we approach the end of the year, and remind them that their hard work and efforts will pay off. We are excited about the upcoming events, field trips, and celebrations, and we are committed to providing a positive and enriching experience for every student.

We wrap up winter athletics with a lot of celebrations. Both girls and boys basketball season came to a close in the playoffs- though we didn't take home CRAL championships both teams showcased talent and teamwork all season long. TEMS Cheerlearders made themselves known at Reputation Athletics for the fifth annual CRAL showcase. The team won best stunts for the routine division and sharpest motions for the sideline cheer division.
Registration for spring athletics (Track, Baseball, and Softball ) closes on Thursday, 4/2 at 8am. Guardians must register students on the Parent Portal and turn in a current physician statement to the main office before tryouts begin. This is not a physical, make sure to use the document that is linked here or on the TEMS website. For athletes who already participated in fall or winter sports- you still need to make sure that the appropriate spring sport is selected on Parent Portal.
Spring athletics tryout information is not scheduled yet. Be sure to check the website and TETV news for updates.

As we continue to navigate the balance between technology and personal well-being, I want to emphasize the importance of limiting screen time and monitoring the use of cell phones and social media apps. While technology can be a valuable tool for learning and staying connected, excessive screen time can negatively impact children's mental health, focus, and overall well-being. I encourage families to set clear boundaries around screen use at home and school, especially during study time, and help your child develop healthy habits for managing their devices.
Additionally, it is important to stay informed about the social media platforms your child is using and engage in open conversations about online safety, privacy, and responsible use. Often, when we investigate matters of student conflict, more and more is happening online. We have seen examples of text message and Snap Chat group chats with dozens of students in them, with students sometimes reporting that they do not know everyone in the chat. Together, we can help ensure that technology serves as a positive influence in their lives.
Click here (or the image below) for resources from South Windsor Youth and Family Services and the South Windsor Police department related to social media and screen time.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a healthy and balanced environment for our students.
I will share an updated date for the viewing of Screenagers since this week's event was postponed. This is a great opportunity to learn more about how to best support your child during this critical time of development.

The winter sessions are still going strong (with some make up sessions extending the winter sessions because of all the snow).
You can look forward to the spring session brochure being sent to families the week of March 16th

Tip #1: Shift Responsibility
Helping a teenager take ownership of their education involves shifting from being their "manager" to being their "consultant." Encourage them to track their own assignments and progress; this transition encourages them to develop the internal motivation needed for long-term success. So…
Instead of asking: Is your homework done?
Try asking: If you have homework tonight, what is your plan for getting your work done?
