As we head into the winter holiday break, I’m pleased to share a look ahead at upcoming events and activities for January. While this newsletter looks forward to the new year, I also want to take a moment to wish you and your family a joyful holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year.
The start of a new year offers a natural opportunity for reflection and a reset. In January, we will be encouraging students to set goals and recommit to school expectations as we continue developing the traits outlined in the South Windsor Portrait of the Graduate. Our vision for learners is that they feel empowered, engaged, resilient, and socially conscious, and these traits guide our daily work with students.
We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that words matter. The way we speak to one another helps shape our school culture, and the adults in our students’ lives play a critical role in modeling respectful communication and setting clear norms and boundaries.
We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home and in helping our students start the new year strong. We look forward to welcoming students back in January and continuing our work together.

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is being administered to SOME students on February 25th. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP is different from our state assessments because it is a common measure of achievement across the country. The results are released as The Nation’s Report Card, which provides information about student achievement to educators, parents/guardians, policymakers, and the public.
If your child is one of the 8th graders that have been randomly selected to take the test in reading, mathematics, or science you will be notified individually in January. This letter will include more information about what the test is and information for opting out. More information about NAEP can be found here.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s time to launch work for our 2026 edition of Out of the Blue. Our editors have been hard and work and we are excited to see our former members and welcome new members. So whether you like to write, draw, or take photos Out of the Blue is the place for you! We will meet in Ms. Olsen’s room in 222 after the holiday break. Be sure to pay attention to announcements once we return for specific details. Click here to see last year's final publication.

We’re Back! The Connecticut Writing Project is looking for the best young writers in the state—and TE has a proud history of winners. This year, it’s your turn. Join us for six after-school writing sessions with teachers and peers in a supportive, creative space—Wednesdays or Thursdays in 2026. Late buses are provided. Sharpen your pencil. Open your mind. Write boldly, write bravely—write the story only you can tell. Sign up with any ELA teacher or on the TE homepage. Questions: See Mr. Stinchon. Let your story begin!

The daily TETV Morning News serve as our primary vehicle for communicating important information to students each day. This is where students can learn about upcoming events, tryouts, clubs and activities, and current events. In addition to playing during homeroom each day you can access the daily news on our school website.

It has been wonderful getting to know and see so many of our students in the school library media center during their W.I.N periods and with their ELA classes.
I like to remind students that even when our library is closed, they still have 24/7 access to our growing virtual collection of eBooks and e-audios through Destiny Discover. Click on the books to view a brief video on how students can access TE's digital content within Destiny Discover.
Wishing you and your families health and happiness in the New Year!
