  • Welcome back to another edition of TETV Morning News. Today is Tuesday, February 25.
  • Last night, the TEMS Lady Cougars basketball team took on the Illing Rams in the CRAL Championship game held here at TE.  This was the second time TE has been in the title game in the last three years, though this time TE earned the right to host the final after going undefeated during the regular season and then beating Windsor Locks in the semi-finals last week.  With the game slightly delayed due to a scheduling snafu, the Lady Cougars were chomping at the bit to get the game going.  The opening tap, which Elise Glunt has won every time this year, started the Lady Cougars off on the right foot.  Captain Olivia Dzubin secured the ball and scored the first bucket of the game and the Lady Cougars never looked back.  Though the first quarter was back and forth, TE found it's way to the line for free throws but were not able to convert.  The score was 8-8 after one period though TE looked to be in control of the game.  The second quarter is when the Lady Cougars took charge.  Dzubin took matters into her own hands, and sank three huge three pointers which turned the game in TE's favor.  Maddie Carpenter was feeling it too.  She had one of her two first half three's in the second quarter as well.  The half-time score of 22-15 was a sign of more to come. In the second half, TE's relentless pressure D caused numerous turnovers and allowed them to extend their lead in the game.  Carpenter was red hot and made three 3's in the quarter while Elise Glunt was able to turn TE's misfortune from the free throw line in the first half into four easy points in the 3rd quarter.  The fourth quarter was similar to the third as TE extended their lead to nearly double the Rams from Illing.  Carpenter, Leighton Edwards, Emma Rutkauskus, Emmi Tushe, and Eliana Beakal each had a bucket in the final quarter.  TE's lead was insurmountable at this point as they secured the 54-28 victory.  Coach Chandler would like to thank all the 8th graders for their tireless effort and incredible work ethic all season.  Glunt, Carpenter, Dzubin, Tushe, Emily Keegan and Aleks Gogic were inspirational leaders all season.  "It was a very special year," Coach Chandler said.  "To go undefeated and win the championship going away is something all the players should be proud of.  I can't wait to see what happens next year for the 8th graders moving to the high school," he added.  With both the boys and girls winning the championship, this marks the second time in the history of the CRAL that both the boys and girls won in the same year, the last time being in 2012-2013.  Congrats girls on a great season - you deserve it!
  • Tomorrow, Wednesday, February 26th is HuskyTHON and CougarTHON'S "Day of Strength".  Day of Strength is a special day for the HuskyTHON community to come together and support the kids and families at Connecticut Children’s. To honor Day of Strength, CougarTHON is inviting all students and staff to participate in Hats for HuskyTHON. Students, teachers, and staff are encouraged to wear their favorite hat to school tomorrow. Together we have raised over four thousand dollars this year, so in place of another fund raiser, lets all simply join together to celebrate and support our efforts to make a brighter future for the kids at Connecticut Children's.  Thank you for all you have contributed this year!
  • Attention, students from the clay castle matinee: your castles are out of the kiln! come and get 'em!
  • The boys basketball team played Illing Middle School team from Manchester on Friday afternoon for the league championship. It was a closely contested game, but the Cougars defense of pressure and offensive output pushed through and they won the championship 64 to 43. The Cougars finished off an undefeated season 14-0. The boys started strong with a 17 point first quarter and had a nine point lead going into halftime. The Cougars never looked back and maintained a double digit lead for the rest of the game. The Cougars defense throughout the season was one of the main factors that helped them go undefeated. The unselfish and team basketball also contributed to the 14 and 0 record. It is the boys basketball teams first championship since 2012 -2013. Congratulations to the boys basketball teams undefeated championship season.
