  • Welcome back to another edition of TETV Morning News. Today is Thursday, December 21.
  • Student Council's Spirit week rolls on. Looking so fancy today, could have easily thought we were at the Oscars. Don't forget, tomorrow wraps up spirit week with Ugly Sweater Day! So bring out your tackiest holiday sweaters, sweater dresses, or any other crazy festive outfit.
  • Last Friday, 127 students gathered to participate in the annual MathCounts school competition.  The top 8 students will be moving on to the Hartford Chapter Competition. Congratulations to the following students who will be competing in February. Girish Prasad, Gian Handa, Aarav Pruthi, Henry Venne, Ishan Agarwal, Zarif Rahman, Danyel Reyes, and Satvik Koppu. A special shout out to Girish Prasad who was the second person in TEMS history to achieve a perfect score!
  • The Boys Basketball team lost to Illing Middle School 58-47 in Manchester. Outside shooting kept the Cougars in the game hitting eleven 3’s as a team. Turnovers led to some easy baskets for Illing and the Cougars fought back but it wasn’t enough.  The team fell to 1-1 for the season and they look to bounce back after vacation. There next game is away against Ellington on January 4th.
  • The Lady Cougars continued on their winning ways, beating Illing last night 32-20.  Shea Brochu led the Lady Cougars with 12 points, including three 3-pointers.  Maria Puniello added 6 points on the night as well.  TEMS was relentless from the start...opening up a 18-8 lead at halftime.  Key defensive efforts kept the Rams from getting anything going.  Adding to their lead after halftime, Allie Kupec finished a nice and-one midway through the fourth quarter.  Olivia Dzubin scored 4 points on the evening, Alex Gogic chipped in three, and both Elise Glunt and Emmi Tushe dropped a bucket each.  The Lady Cougars have a long extended break and get back at it after the holidays.  Congrats on a great game girls.

  • The boys basketball team won a thrilling game yesterday against Suffield.  The Cougars were down 18-4 after the first quarter but rallied back in the second to be down 20-17 at half. Brooklyn King had five 3’s to help lead the comeback.  King hit a 3 with less than 20 seconds to play and then stole the inbound pass and fed Tyler Poland for the layup plus the foul.  Tyler hit the the go ahead free throw with 9 second left and held on to win 46-45. The Cougars play tomorrow at Illing Middle School.
  • The Lady Cougars opened up their title defense, taking on the Suffield Wildcats last night in Suffield. The Lady Cougars were held in check for most of the first half, however, they were still in the game going into halftime. Down nine, entering the second frame, the Lady Cougars decided to put the press on, and boy did they ever.  Steal after steal and fast break after fast break, the Lady Cougars chipped away and scored 19 in the quarter to the Wildcat’s six. The Lady Cougars were led by Shea Brochu  with 17 strong and eight of them coming from the free line, Olivia Dzubin had two three-pointers and a free throw, Maria Puniello scored four as well. Elise Glunt had several key rebounds and three points from the charity stripe as well. Alex Gogic , Emmi Tushe, and America Bernier each had two points in the contest and Madison Carpenter added one. The final score after such a great comeback was 38-33. Great job ladies.

  • This Friday, December 15th will be our School Math Counts competition.   There will be no regular meeting on Friday.  All students who are interested in participating in the competition should report to the Cafeteria on Friday, at 8:05, directly after homeroom.  Please let your first period teacher know that you will be missing class. Be sure to bring 2 or more pencils and a calculator.  Chromebooks will NOT be allowed.  If you have any questions, see Mrs. Goldman in room 267.
  • Do you lose your pencil a lot? Do you wish for fidgets and hair accessories at the tips of your fingers? Well, scrunchies, stationery, fidgets, and more will all be available at the reopening of the… school store! The Cougar Den will be open every Friday in the cafeteria during your grade level’s lunch wave, with your own student council members ready to take your order! Get ready, opening day is this Friday!
  • Ginger Bread Houses are out of the kiln! Students who participated in Clay Gingerbread House matinee can come and pick up your Ginger Bread House in room 123, As Soon As Possible!
  • Do you want to be comfy on the day before winter break? Do you want to help kids who are in the hospital? Well, Student Council is hosting a donation drive so Connecticut Children’s, our local children’s hospital, can purchase toys for their patients. If we reach $200 by Thursday the 21st, we will have a school-wide pajama day on Friday, the half day! Envelopes will be passed out to homerooms, and we will also be in the lobby to collect donations. Monetary donations only, no physical toys. We and the patients at Connecticut Children’s thank you for your support.
