• Good morning TE. I was looking through last year’s yearbook and I noticed that all three grades chose soccer as their favorite sport. If you were one of those who love the game, I have a treat for you. Next Friday, at 6 pm on the soccer fields at Rye Street, the South Windsor High School Boys Soccer Team is playing their rival, Manchester, under the lights. This is a once a year event that draws over 500 fans, so please come join us. Cost is only $2 to attend, and if you come in your South Windsor Soccer jersey or t-shirt, you get in free. You can’t beat that! Last time we played Manchester, we won 1-0 in overtime, so this game should be a battle. See you then! 
  

• Joke of the week: Hello TE, it's time for the joke of the week. Why did the man put a clock under his desk? He wanted to work Over Time!!!!
  

• Students get bullied everyday. Bullying is when someone does something mean over and over again. It is not safe and it is not OK! Wear orange on Unity Day next Wednesday, October 25th, to show your support against bullying. Remind your brothers and sisters too, because all South Windsor schools will be wearing orange that day!

• TEMS will be holding our 7th annual Kenny Offiaeli Memorial Basketball Tournament on Friday  November 10th from 5:30-8:30 here at TEMS.  This tournament honors the life of a former TEMS student and basketball player who suddenly passed away during his 8th grade year.  The money raised from the tournament goes to support the Kenny Offaieli scholarship fund that is given to an 8th grade student each year at graduation. This tournament is open to any student at TEMS.  You may pick up a registration packet in the main office or main gym.  Forms are due by October 27th to the main office.
  

• Outdoor Education is going on a hike at Valley Falls in Vernon Thursday, October 26th.  Please stop by the main office for a form if you're interested.  Forms for the hike are due back to the office by Wednesday, October 25th. All students are welcome to attend.
  

• Albert Einstein once said, "Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas." Joining MathCounts is a logical idea.  Yes, it is that time of year.  If you are interested in math; want to have fun doing math, while getting better at math, then MathCounts is the place to be.  We will have our first get together on Friday, October 27 at 7:00 AM in the cafeteria.  Ask your math teacher for an informational flyer.  Stay tuned for more MathCounts news.  
  

• The Cougars matched up against Sage Park yesterday afternoon and took home a 3-1 win. The Cougars played arguably their best soccer of the season dominating possession in the first half with precision passes from Taryn Suffish, Rhianna O'Meara, Emerson Iacovelli, Lexi Wheeler, and Sam Wunsch. The Cougars relentless pressure led to their first goal as Taryn Suffish found the foot of Marybeth Grasso for the Cougars first of the day. Moments later, an ambitious throw in from Lexie Wheeler led the speedy Suffish in to space as she skillfully sped by the Sage Park defenders. The solo effort extended the lead 2-0. Later in the game, Rhianna O'Meara placed a through ball to Grasso giving the striker her second goal on the day. During the second half, remarkable defense from Candace Walsh, Megan Martin, and Ellinor Edstrom maintained the Cougar lead. Outstanding play throughout the game was had by Emily Ledger, Iniya Raja, and Lexi Lilly. The Lady Cougars look forward to their next away game on Tuesday against JFK. 
  

• The TEMS Field Hockey team suffered it's first loss in overtime against Stafford Middle School yesterday with a score of 3-2. Scoring early for the Cougars was Anna Kim with an assist by Kelli Mann. Anna scored the second goal shortly after with an assist from Maliya Haddock. Greta Slater had a great game playing defense and kept the ball out of the backfield for the Cougars. Kayden Burke, Josie Foley Maddy Riopel, Maya Lagasse, Grace Reed and Christina Bellizzi did a great job distributing the ball throughout the game. 
  

• For the second game TE lost 1-0 despite outstanding play from Alexa Parada, Abby Bergstrom, Morgan Reed, Alexis Dabrowski, Amanda Kozuira, Lily McCully and Kaitlin Hardy.Thank you to everyone that came out to support the team for their Foundation game. TE's next home game is Monday against Irving Robbins of Farmington.

• The first dance of the year will be tonight from 6:30-8:30 run by the TEMS coaches.  This dance will be our Halloween Dance, students are encouraged to dress up for this dance.  Remember no props or masks.  Tickets are $7 ahead of time and $10 at the door. We will  be collecting non-perishable food items that night to be donated to the Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief.
  

• Do you like helping others? Are you interested in fun things? Would you like to be a supportive friend?  If this describes you, then you should consider joining the extra curriculum club TEMS Friends. Pick up an application in room 301 if you are interested in this great opportunity. The deadline for applications has been extended to Wednesday, October 25th.  The program meets Thursdays from 2:45-4:00 November 2 - December 13.

• The TE Boys Soccer team battled Sage Park last night, coming away with a 5-0 victory.  The first half was blinding due to the low sun, but the Cougars pushed through to put four past the Chargers keeper.  Ben Bernstein opened up the scoring, followed by Aiden Iacovelli, John Montana, with a Neymar-esque free kick, going just around the wall, and Andrew Bell, who got some time out on the right wing.  In the second half the cougars laid off the throttle and only tallied one additional goal.  Aadi Dey finished nicely with his left foot bringing the Cougars total to five.  The Cougars still have two games remaining next week and serve as host to JFK on Tuesday and Tolland on Thursday.  Hope you can come and cheer on the boys.
  

• Attentions all 8th graders:  Are you interested in playing flag football after school.  If so, please get your team together for a chance to play in The Cougar Bowl.  Team rosters and permission slips are to be handed in to Mr. Chandler by Friday, October 28th.  The dates for the Cougar Bowl are listed on the parent permission slip.  If your team is good enough, you may get a chance to lose to the "undefeated" teachers just like every other team before you.  Don't hesitate and get your team roster in ASAP.  See Mr. Chandler for more details and good luck.

• The field hockey team will be playing their annual foundation game on today after school.  This years foundation game will raise money and awareness for juvenile diabetes in which the body is unable to regulate blood sugar.  The team will be selling blue beads for 1$ starting Tuesday,  October 17th in the main lobby.  The team will also be holding a hat day on Thursday the 19th.  If you would like to wear a hat during the school day please bring in a dollar and get a sticker for your hat in the main lobby.  Baked goods and snacks will be sold at the game.  All proceeds will go to the CT Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Thank you in advance for supporting this years team.  We hope to see you out at the game on Thursday!
  

• ALL TEMS student are invited to "TAKE THE CHALLENGE" and sign up for this year's AMC-8 competition. The AMC-8 is a 25 question multiple choice, timed math test that will be administered at TEMS on Monday November 20th. Practice prep sessions will be scheduled before and after school for all interested participants. Registration forms are available in all MATH classes and on the TEMS homepage. For more information see Mr. Smith-Horn in room 307 or before homeroom in Stairwell "I".

• Yesterday afternoon, the lady Cougars traveled to East Hartford to take on the Falcons. The Cougars started strong with pressure from the midfield and forwards. The Cougars dominated all sixty minutes with goals in the first half coming from Marybeth Grasso, Haydin Courtois, and Taryn Suffish. Assists in the first half came from Candace Walsh and Sam Wunsch. As the Cougars approached the second half, the Cougars were able to seal the win with efforts from Mikayla Evans, Abby Peruccio, Leighana Ferrabelo and Huntyr Courtois. A few Cougar highlights include Haydin Courtois and Arden Sansom scoring their first goals of the season as well as TE's Rhianna O'Meara and Emerson Iacovelli leading the team with two assists. Additionally, Lexi Lilly added to the Cougar tally with two late goals on the day. Maria Galley maintained the shoutout and had two saves during the match. The Cougars look forward to their next match on Thursday at Sage Park.

• The TE Boys soccer team was in action last night, taking on the Falcons of East Hartford.  The sun was out and the temperature was perfect for a soccer game as both teams scrapped away at each other in the first half.  John Montana was shredding the defense, but was unable to capitalize.  Finally, the Cougars were able to get on the score sheet.  Montana glided through the defense, his shot went off the post and ricocheted off a couple players to the feet of Jack Stricker.  After composing himself neatly in front of goal, he finished his chance smartly.  At the half the Cougars were up justifiably.  In the second half it was the Falcon side who pressed.  Ultimately, the Cougars defense broke ever so slightly after some indecision and communication errors.  The Falcon forward rushed in to take advantage of the situation and brought them level in the game.  Fewer chances in the second half meant that TE would have to settle for the draw, the second one of the season against East Hartford.  The Cougars next play this Thursday against Sage Park after school.  Please come out and cheer on the boys.

• Our Walk-A-Thon pledge period wrapped up last night.  Thanks so much to everyone who helped to make our fundraiser a success! Thanks to your efforts, we raised a total of $20,938.50. Way to go Cougars!!! And now the moment you've all been waiting for... The announcement of our Walk-A-Thon Prize Winners. The individuals that have raised the most in donations for their grades and will be awarded $100 cash are:  6th grader Vincent Ryder from the Lime Team who raised $450. Tony DeMartino, the 7th grader from the Scarlet Team who raised the most for his grade AND raised more than any other student at TE. He raised an impressive $650. The top earning 8th grader is Richard Collins from the Pacific Team, who raised a total of $345. Congratulations to our individual winners! You can go to the office to claim your prize. Before we announce the team prize, just a quick shout out to the Evergreen Team for joining the $2000 club. Congratulations! Now... the top earning team, raising $3614 as a team is the Lime Team. Enjoy your pizza party! You deserve it!! On to our last prize. The top earning grade, winning the cross team lunches on Fridays next month is the 7th grade. They earned a total of $8337.50 as a grade. Wow! Great job 7th grade! Once again we'd like to offer our sincere thanks to everyone that participated in our Walk-A-Thon and worked hard to make it a success. • The TE Field Hockey team took home a big win against JFK yesterday with a score of 4-0. Scoring two goals each for the Cougars was Maliya Haddock and Anna Kim. Kayden Burke owned the midfield and had two assists. Playing well for the Cougars was Emily Scola, Sophie Finer, Christina Bellizzi, Emily Osit and Zoe Calhoun. Ria Saxena and Sophia Flores were credited with the shutout.

• The Cougars took home another win in the second game with a score of 3-0. Nicole Mann and Alexa Parada scored early in the game and Tori Jarvis scored the third in the final minutes. Abby Bergstrom, Amanda Kozuira and Isabelle Goodrich did a great job moving the ball up field with Brenda Do, Kaitlin Hardy, Haily Jarvis and Grace Rich playing great defense. Ria Saxena had several great saves to take home the shutout. TE's next home game will be on Thursday against Stafford Middle School. Make sure you come out to support the team!

• Walk-A-Thon News:  Tonight is the donation deadline for our Walk-A-Thon. Thank you to everyone who has already donated! Congratulations to the Sage Team! This weekend they joined Lime, Scarlet, Pacific, Ruby and Garnet in the $2000 club. Evergreen is very close to joining the club too. We still need help reaching our $18,000 net goal.  Because of administrative and prize expenses, we need to earn a bit more to reach our goal and fully fund our budget for the school.  Please consider helping us out if you haven't already by going to the getmovincrew.com. The prize competitions will close tonight and prizes will be announced tomorrow morning for the fundraising winners. Currently in the lead for the $100 cash prize for each grade are: 6th - Vincent Ryder, Lime 7th - Tony DeMartino, Scarlet 8th - Richard Collins, Pacific. Currently in the lead for the team Pizza Party is the Lime Team. And the grade in the lead to earn those cross team lunches is the 7th grade. Again it isn't over yet, donations close today so get those last minute donations in. Be sure to tune in tomorrow! Tony DeMartino from Scarlet is in the lead for 7th grade and Richard Collins from Pacific is in the lead for 8th grade. For cross team lunch Fridays in November, the 7th grade is in the lead but the 6th grade is close behind! • TEMS will be holding our 7th annual Kenny Offiaeli Memorial Basketball Tournament on Friday  November 10th from 5:30-8:30 here at TEMS.  This tournament honors the life of a former TEMS student and basketball player who suddenly passed away during his 8th grade year.  The money raised from the tournament goes to support the Kenny Offaieli scholarship fund that is given to an 8th grade student each year at graduation.    This tournament is open to any student at TEMS.  You may pick up a registration packet in the main office or main gym.  Forms are due by October 27th to the main office.
  

• Trick or Treat for Unicef is back. Please think about contributing to this great cause which helps underprivileged children around the world. Collection boxes can be found in each home room. Lets help out by giving a little to Unicef.
  

• The TE Field Hockey team extended their winning streak on the road with a 4-2 win over Suffield yesterday afternoon. Maliya Haddock scored in the opening minutes of the game with an assist by Kayden Burke. Josie Folly scored shortly after assisted by Anna Kim. Kayden fired in the third goal unassisted with Kelli scoring the fourth goal of the game with an assist by Maddy Riopel. Sophie Finer, Zoe Calhoun and Melissa Murdoch moved the ball up field well with great defense played by Grace Reed, Maya Lagasse, Molly Frank, Christina Belizzi and Avery Fournier. In the second game the Cougars were victorious again with a late goal by Anna Stapleton. Playing well in game 2 was Nicole Mann, Abby Bergstrom, Lily McCully, Grace Rich and Kaitlyn Hardy.
  

• The field hockey team will be playing their annual foundation game on Thursday October 19th.  This years foundation game will raise money and awareness for juvenile diabetes in which the body is unable to regulate blood sugar.  The team will be selling blue beads for 1$ starting Tuesday,  October 17th in the main lobby.  The team will also be holding a hat day on Thursday the 19th.  If you would like to wear a hat during the school day please bring in a dollar and get a sticker for your hat in the main lobby.  Baked goods and snacks will be sold at the game.  All proceeds will go to the CT Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Thank you in advance for supporting this years team.  We hope to see you out at the game on Thursday!
  

• ALL TEMS student are invited to "TAKE THE CHALLENGE" and sign up for this year's AMC-8 competition. The AMC-8 is a 25 question multiple choice, timed math test that will be administered at TEMS on Monday November 20th. Practice prep sessions will be scheduled before and after school for all interested participants. Registration forms are available in all MATH classes and on the TEMS homepage. For more information see Mr. Smith-Horn in room 307 or before homeroom in Stairwell "I".
  

• The first dance of the year will be on Friday October 20th from 6:30-8:30 run by the TEMS coaches.  This dance will be our Halloween Dance, students are encouraged to dress up for this dance.  Remember no props or masks.  Tickets are $7 and go on sale Tuesday October 17th in the main lobby before school.  We will also be collecting non-perishable food items that night to be donated to the Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief.

• The Girls Cross Country team ran against Ellington yesterday and suffered a loss of 22 to 35.  The cougars had a fantastic start to the race, with only one Ellington runner in the top 6, and TE ended strong on the steep downhill finish.  Coming in first overall was Audrey Manning, out front and all alone by 17 seconds.  Mayee Mavillapalli and Ella Heredia both had excellent races as they moved up several spots on the team.  Also running well was Amritha Suresh, who had one of her best performances ending the race in an all out sprint.  Speaking of all out sprints, the Drenga sisters, Katelyn and Alyssa, both had three Ellington runners right on their heels at the finish, but they must have made a pact to show no mercy as they both out sprinted the Ellington runners by mere seconds.  Captain Sophia Hollister cheered her heart out with Ciara Turco and Samantha Rowell who remain spirited despite persistent injuries.  A big thanks to managers Tracy Doan and Varsha Chilakapati who have been so helpful running the home meets and also came to our away meet to support teammates.  Great job to all runners, and good luck at your upcoming league meet! 
  

• The Boys Cross Country team added another victory to their season total on Wednesday afternoon when they had a strong win over Ellington Middle School.  Kyle Sullivan held off a sprinting Nikhil Kikanamada as the duo took the top 2 overall spots in the Cougars' 19 to 42 win.  Max Plunske crossed the line in the top 20 , followed closely by Nathan Grilli, both having their best finishes of the year, and Alex Belardi gave it his all on the finishing downhill for his fastest time of the year.  The win has the boys finish the regular season with only one loss and the team gets 2 weeks to prepare for the league championship race on the 25th.

• Our second annual TEMS Walk-A-Thon was a great success!   Students, staff, and the Cougar all had a fantastic time! Shout out to Mother Nature for holding off the rain.  We have big news to share today. As of last night, we exceeded our $18,000 school goal! Thank you to all TEMS students, staff, family and friends for your support in making our fundraiser a success! We will declare the individual, team and grade winners after the close of the pledge period next week.  But in the meantime, a shout out to Team Garnet for joining the $2,000 plus club and reaching their goal!!!  Vincent Ryder is still holding strong as the 6th grade leader.  Tony DeMartino is in the lead for 7th grade, and Richard Collins currently has the lead for 8th.  The Lime Team currently has the overall lead for the pizza party, but The Scarlet Team is close behind them! Keep up the great work!  Remember the pledge period will close next week on Monday October 16th.

• The TE Boys Soccer team played host to Ellington last night only to fall 3-0 to the Wildcats.  The first half started off like the last game against Illing, only the Cougars were unable to put a scare into the Wildcats as they stormed out to a 3-0 half time lead.  However, in the second half the Cougars ramped up their intensity and declawed the Wildcats attack, keeping them at bay for the second half.  Alex Magarian, AJ Faust, Xavier Crane, Aadi Dei, and Aryan Kalia pushed hard through the midfield and intercepted passes one after the other.  John Montana and Jake Gattuso pressed up front and gave the Wildcat defense trouble most of the second half.  The Cougars fall to 2-5-1 on the season with 4 games to play.  Up next the cougars play East Hartford next Tuesday.  If they win the remainder of their game they will finish above .500 on the season.  Come out and cheer on the boys.
  

• The Lady Cougars matched up against longstanding rivals Ellington in a physical game ending in a 1-0 loss. Throughout the game, the Cougars had a number of chances on cage, but couldn't seem to find the back of the net. Outstanding defensive play came from Megan Martin and Ellinor Edstrom as the duo consistently drew pressure and cleared the ball up the field. Scoring attempts in the game came from Lexi Wheeler, Emily Ledger, Marybeth Grasso, and Taryn Suffish. However, as it turned out the Ellington defense was too strong for the Cougar offense. Chances were had on both sides, but it was ultimately Ellington who took the victory. Cougars deserving recognition for their outstanding play included Maria Galley, Candace Walsh, Rhianna O'Meara, Lexi Lilly, Haydin Courtois, and Ella Suppicich.

Kelli Mann came away with a hat trick with Kayden Burke finalizing the win with a goal in the final seconds of the game. Maliya Haddock controlled the midfield and also had an assist in the first half. Kayden Burke assisted on two of Mann's goals. Zoe  Calhoun played well at mid and in the circle. Molly Frank, Grace Reed, Maya Lagasse, Tori Jarvis, Kaitlin Hardy, and Grace Rich all played well keeping the ball outside their defensive circle. Giana Bellody, Nicole Mann, Alexis Dabrowski demonstrated superb passing on the offensive line. Isabelle Goodrich, Abby Bergstrom, Alexa Parada and Amanda Kozuira displayed great hustle on both ends of the field. TE travels to Suffield today.

• Not only are we walking tomorrow afternoon, we are also participating in a presentation called, “Campfel Productions”.  This anti-bullying presentation will challenge you to think about your words and actions and their effects on others.  Tomorrow plans to be a day for us to come together, learn something, reflect on how we behave and have some fun walking with our team mates.  Don’t forget to wear your new team t-shirts.  If you didn’t buy one, we have some extras for purchase in the office.  They are $7.00 – or you can just wear your grade level color – blue for grade 8; red for grade 7; and green for grade 6. Have a great day, do your best and ALWAYS STRIVE FOR FIVE plus ONE!

• The Timothy Edwards Cougars faced off against the Sage Park Chargers yesterday afternoon. The game started evenly match with both sides threatening to score. However, the Cougar press was too much for the Chargers to handle as Taryn Suffish intercepted a pass and found the foot of Sam Wunsch. Wunsch was cool, calm, and collected as she poked the ball into the back of the net bringing the score to 1-0. Outstanding tackling came from the 7th graders Iniya Raja and Emily Ledger as both players never quit and worked hard throughout the game. Additional chances in the first half came from Candace Walsh and Sarah Gordon. The Cougars came out a bit slow in the second half, but maintained the clean sheet with outstanding defensive play from Ellinor Edstrom Megan Martin, Haydin Courtois, and Ella Suppicich. In the second half, midfielders Rhianna O'Meara and Taryn Suffish contributed to the Cougar attack as each held three shots on the day. Late in the second half, Lexi Wheeler found the lower left corner off a penalty kick. The third and final goal came from a free kick as Wheeler demonstrated true composure again, sailing the ball over the top of the defending players and into the back of the net. The goal was said to remind fans of the blistering free kicks from the Real Madrid superstar Christiano Ronaldo. Maria Galley rounded out the team in goal making four saves on the day. Galley's exceptional play has kept the Cougars in close games and for the last two, she has kept two clean sheets. Galley's outstanding play has been vital to the Cougar's success. The Cougars attend their first away game against rivals Illing at 3:30 on Tuesday. Come show your support!

• The the boys soccer team played their final away game last night, traveling to Windsor to take on the Chargers of sage Park. The contest was settled early with five goals being scored in the first half. On the scoresheet were John Montana, Sam Melashenko, Andrew Bell, Brian Fishman, and Ben Bernstein. The second half was very similar to the first, however, the Cougars were more patient and probed well in attack. Four goals in the second half were scored by Andrew Monteserin who scored two goals, Dylan Hutton, and Jake Gattuso.  Trevor Lussier and four others were credited with the shutout. The Cougars next game is their first one at home this season on Tuesday. Come out and cheer on the boys!

• The School Store will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting next week.  The store will be open during lunch for grade 7 and grade 8 at this time.  Please stop by to see what items are being sold in the store!

• Do you know what time of the year it is? Time for Ghosts, Witches, and Jack-O-Lanterns? Yes, but it is also time for Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF! What is that? UNICEF is an organization that helps children in emergencies all over the world. You mean emergencies like hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts, and wars? Yes, and many other types of emergencies. TE is collecting money this month to donate to UNICEF.  I heard that last year TE raised over $600 for UNICEF.  Do you think we can meet or beat that amount?  It sure would help the children around the world! YES!  There is a Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF box in every homeroom.  Just bring in your spare change to make a change in a child’s life. Thank you, TE, for showing you care for others!

• STEAM Olympics registration is now open to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Sign up to participate in the 2nd annual STEAM Olympics on Saturday October 28th. Students must pre-register to participate in a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematical activities.
