  • Good morning everyone, I am here this morning to talk to you about Movember. For those of you who do not know, during the month of November teachers here at TE will grow out their moustaches in an effort to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer research. This is a contest we have been holding for 5 years now. To donate to this great cause, we will be selling ballots during your lunch waves. Each ballot is 50 cents or you can get 3 for a dollar. To vote for your favorite moustache, you simply place your ballot in that staff member's collection box. The staff members with the fewest votes each week will be eliminated and the remaining staff will continue on. Who is going to grow the best moustache this year, who is going to take home the coveted moustache belt????? That is up to you, so get out the vote, vote early and vote often and help your favorites to win while raising money for a great cause.

  • On Friday afternoon, the lady Cougars drove to Enfield to finish up their season against JFK. The Cougars started strong as Taryn Suffish, Sam Wunsch, and Haydin Courtois helped to possess the ball in midfield. Attempts on goal in the first half came from Sam Wunsch, Marybeth Grasso, and Lexie Wheeler. Once again, the Cougar's back four had an amazing day including Candace Walsh, Ella Suppicich, Megan Martin, and Ellinor Edstrom. Despite the efforts, the score remained 0-0 at half. In the second half, the tides began to turn, as the determined midfielder Rhianna O'Meara provided countless precision passes as she picked apart the Enfield defenders. Ultimately, the Cougar offense was too strong as Marybeth found the foot of Sarah Gordon putting TE up 1-0. With a continuous press, Sarah Gordon was on the board again with an assist to Lexi Wheeler putting the Cougars in sight of victory. JFK answered back closing the gap within one goal. However, the play of the game came from Candace Walsh scoring the third and final goal with less than 10 seconds left in the match. Amazingly, the assist came from the punt of Maria Galley. The amazing goal was the perfect cap to an incredible season. The lady Cougars finished with an outstanding record of 8-2-2 on the season. Thanks to all the students and parents who came out to the game and supported the team.
  • A reminder to all Spotlight Show Choir Members:  There will be no rehearsal this afternoon.  All students should go home on their regular bus.  Our next rehearsal is tomorrow morning at 7 am.
  • Any 8th Grader interested in attending Cheney Technical High School needs to sign up in the counseling office today.   A representative from Cheney Tech will be here on Thursday, November 2nd, to answer questions and review the application process.
  • The Girls Cross Country team celebrated a 3rd place victory at their league meet last Wednesday with a final score of 74 points.  Audrey Manning led the TE girls, coming in 8th, earning some hardware for finishing in the top ten overall.  A strong pack of 5 cougars finished within 11 seconds of one another including Bridget Carroll who had one of the best races of her season finishing 4th on the team and in the top 20 overall.  Also representing TE well was Riley Baker, the only 6th grader to qualify for the league meet, crossing the finish in a speedy time of 14:35.  The cougars look forward to their final meet this Saturday at Wickham Park in Manchester to compete against the toughest competition in the state.  Best of luck to all runners!
  • The Boys Cross Country team took a trip to Manchester last Wednesday to compete in the CRAL championship race and gave it their all in the 2 mile race as they brought home the 2nd place trophy.  Kyle Sullivan and Nikhil Kikanamada led the team, finishing in 5th and 7th overall, to receive medals for top 10 finishes.  Colin Heslin, Jacob Beaulier and Daniel Hegi all had great runs as they finished in the top 20 of the best runners in the league.  The Cougars finish their season on Saturday, when they head over to Wickham Park to race the State Championship race.
  • Today for lunch... In the Create line you can have French Toast Sticks. In the Grill line you can have a Crispy Chicken Club and in the On the Go line you can have your choice of deli sandwiches. Have a great day, do your best, and remember to always strive for 5!

  • Good morning TE! It's that time again! Why is there rail roads in your brain? So you don't lose your train of thought!!
  • Ever dream of acting, singing or dancing in a musical?  Ever wonder what it would be like to paint the scenery, or run the lights and sound behind the scenes?  Well now's your chance!  All students interested in participating in the TEMS Entertainers production of Into the Woods are invited to an informational meeting on Monday, November 6th after school in the auditorium.  Anyone interested in auditioning for a part or working on the set, sound or lighting crew should plan to attend - no previous experience required.  Crew selection and auditions will be held in December.  If you are interested but unable to attend the meeting on the 6th, please see Ms. Petrin in room 131 for more information.
  • The Lady Cougars took home a hard fought 0-0 tie yesterday afternoon against #1 seed Tolland in the CRAL. The game conditions were cold, wet, and windy as the Lady Cougars marched on to the field for their second to last game of the season. In the first half, the Cougars had only a few chances with a majority of the balls tangled up by the Tolland defenders. Chances late in the second half came from the foot of Lexi Wheeler off of two corner kicks. Opportunities arose from across the midfield and forward positions including: Sarah Gordon, Marybeth Grasso, Taryn Suffish, and Sam Wunsch. While the match was ultimately an offensive stalemate, the true game-play came from the Cougar defenders as their performance was arguably the best all season. The player of the game was shared by Candace Walsh and Maria Galley. Walsh prevented numerous attacks from Tolland, tackling Tolland players play after play and even demonstrating her complete athleticism by chasing down a brake-away attempt. As well, Galley held an astonishing 16 saves on the afternoon and ruthlessly commanded the TE back four in securing the clean sheet. Additionally, Ellinor Edstrom and Megan Martin also deserve an applause on the day as Tolland made countless attempts that were ultimately denied by the calm and collected wing-backs. The Lady Cougars look forward to their next and final regular season game against JFK at 3:45. Come out and support the squad!
  • Do you like watching soccer? Then this Friday is for you! The South Windsor High Boys Soccer Team plays under the lights this Friday vs Manchester. This is the last regular season home game for the Bobcats. Come to Rye Street at 6 pm to support the team and watch some great soccer. Last year over 400 fans showed up, so join the crowd and be loud!
  • The TEMS Boys soccer team played their final game of the season last night, beating Tolland 2-1 on the night.  Due to weather and other scheduling issues, the game was started promptly at 3:30 and two 30 minute running periods were used.  Needless to say, there was little time out there for nothing else...That being said, the Cougars pushed Tolland to the brink and came out on top.  Goals were scored on either side of halftime by Sam Meleshenko and Aadi Dey.  The first was blasted by the Tolland keeper, while the second was off a deft touch from the chest and a calm finish in front of goal.  It was the last game for the 8th graders who all got the opportunity to start and finish the match.  The Cougars overall record for the season was 4-5-2, while winning the last two games.  Congratulations on finishing the season strong.
  • The TEMS Outdoor Education Club will be heading to Foster Farm on Monday, October 30th for a hay ride and some corn maze fun. If you are interested please pick up a permission slip in the Main Office, or see Mr. Wilkinson in room 112.

  • Have you seen the orange posters around school? Yeah, what is that all about? Unity Day is on Wednesday. It is a day to remind students that bullying is not OK. We need to treat each other with kindness and respect. Tell people to stop if they are doing things that you don't like and if it keeps happening make sure you tell an adult. Together: So we should all wear orange on Wednesday to show our support against bullying. Students get bullied everyday. Bullying is when someone does something mean over and over again. It is not safe and it is not OK! Wear orange on Unity Day on Wednesday, October 25th, to show your support against bullying. Remind your brothers and sisters too, because all South Windsor schools will be wearing orange that day!
