TE Morning News - 2/26/18 
  • Last Friday, MathCounts wrapped up the final in-school gathering with the New England Math League competition.  81 students participated in the 35 question, 30 minute competition.  The top 5 scores from each grade will be forwarded and compared to students from local schools and then all of New England. 

The results for the 6th grade are as follows:  Scoring the highest is Ryan Duong with 31 correct, followed by Advaith Satish with 29 correct, Rishabh Mohapatra with a score of 26, and Aricka Boosa and Mihir Kulkarni tied for 5th scoring 25.  Scoring just one point back and tied for 7th were Parthiv Malipeddu and Iris Wen. 

7th Grader Yunfei Zheng became the first ever TE student to ace the competition, scoring a perfect 35 out of 35. Yunfei was followed by Sai Koppu and Jason Sigler tied for second with scores of 28.  Shristhi Chowdhury placed 4th with a score of 27 and Dhanya Chamawala and Shri Radhakrishnan tied for 5th with scores of 25. 

The 8th grade proved to be very competitive with the top 4 scores separated by 2 points.  Michael Ngo placed first with a score of 34.  Aryan Kalia and Jaideep Naik tied for second with scores of 33 and Pranav Ramesh placed a very close 4th with a score of 32. Kashyap Rao, and Dan Wang tied for 5th with scores of 28.  Dylian Erwin followed right behind with a score of 27.

  • Student score sheets and solution sheets will be given to math teachers for distribution by the end of the week.  Congratulations to all the MathCounts participants for your outstanding efforts and a great season of math.  But TE is not finished yet.  We will bring the Hartford area top MathCounts team of Michael, Aryan, Jaideep, and Yunfei; along with individual partiticpants,  Pranav and Tim to the State MathCounts competition in March.  Best of luck.  It should be very exciting. 
  • Calling all students! Unveil your talents on stage! Be the star for a night! On Thursday, June 7th, the TE PTO will host its annual TE's Got Talent talent show. The show is open to all TE students. If you can sing, dance, juggle, play an instrument- whatever your talent- we want you. Audition forms are now located in the school's main office. 
  • We're back with another addition teachers college history. Today we feature an eighth grade math teacher and our principal. Lets start with Mrs. Goldman. She attended Wheaton College where she Graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor’s degree in Math with a Minor in Computer Science. During college she worked in the computer lab on campus and was a peer tutor/ Peer academic adviser. Next up is our Principal Mrs. Larson. She Attended Eastern CT State University for Undergrad work where she also played Intramural Softball and Intramural Floor Hockey for the Tasmanian Devils. Mrs. Larson was also a part of the “Future Teachers Club”. We will be back tomorrow with some more teacher college histories.
  • Attention all students interested in trying out for Girls and Boys Track, Softball, or Baseball.  All online forms, physicians note, and $100.00 check are due by Friday March 9th in order to try out for a sport.  If you tryout and are not selected for this years team, your check will be returned.  For additional information please visit the TEMS Athletics page or see Mrs. Hall or Mrs. Custer during the day.  
  • "The literary magazine Out of the Blue will meet after school today in Ms. Olsen's room.  Many thanks go out to Grace Rich on the Garnet team for her great submissions to the magazine so far!  We would love to have art, poetry, written, photography, and other submissions from all TE staff and students!  Remember, you could win a prize!

  • Attention baseball players...Now is the time to get prepared for the up and coming season.  If you are interested in a Spring Training Baseball Clinic, please see Mr. S in room 313 or Mr. Wilkinson in room 112. The clinic will take place on March 8th for 6th and 7th graders and March 9th for 8th graders. 

  • The Outdoor Education Club will be going to the South Windsor Arena Thursday, March 1st to go ice skating.  Please stop by the main office or see Mr. Wilkinson or Ms. Nelson for a form if you’re interested.  Forms are due Wednesday, February 28th. 

  • The TEMS Friends Club is starting its Spring session on Thursday, March 15.  The club will meet in room 371.  The TEMS Friends club is a social community service club. It provides an opportunity to become a mentor and friend for students throughout the TE community. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please pick up an application from Mrs. Silverman in room 301.   

  • Today for lunch... In the Create line you can have Cheese Breadsticks. In the Grill line you can have Meatball Sub and in the On the Go line you can have your choice of deli sandwiches. Have a great day, do your best, and remember to always strive for 5!
