• Walk-A-Thon News:  Tonight is the donation deadline for our Walk-A-Thon. Thank you to everyone who has already donated! Congratulations to the Sage Team! This weekend they joined Lime, Scarlet, Pacific, Ruby and Garnet in the $2000 club. Evergreen is very close to joining the club too. We still need help reaching our $18,000 net goal.  Because of administrative and prize expenses, we need to earn a bit more to reach our goal and fully fund our budget for the school.  Please consider helping us out if you haven't already by going to the getmovincrew.com. The prize competitions will close tonight and prizes will be announced tomorrow morning for the fundraising winners. Currently in the lead for the $100 cash prize for each grade are: 6th - Vincent Ryder, Lime 7th - Tony DeMartino, Scarlet 8th - Richard Collins, Pacific. Currently in the lead for the team Pizza Party is the Lime Team. And the grade in the lead to earn those cross team lunches is the 7th grade. Again it isn't over yet, donations close today so get those last minute donations in. Be sure to tune in tomorrow! And thank you to everyone that has already helped to make our fundraiser a success! 

• TEMS will be holding our 7th annual Kenny Offiaeli Memorial Basketball Tournament on Friday November 10th from 5:30-8:30 here at TEMS. This tournament honors the life of a former TEMS student and basketball player who suddenly passed away during his 8th grade year. The money raised from the tournament goes to support the Kenny Offaieli scholarship fund that is given to an 8th grade student each year at graduation. This tournament is open to any student at TEMS. You may pick up a registration packet in the main office or main gym. Forms are due by October 27th to the main office.
  

• There will be a Cougar Community Service Club meeting after school on Wednesday in room 223. See you there! Again the Cougar Community Service Club will meet Wednesday in room 223.
  

• Albert Einstein once said, "Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas." Joining MathCounts is a logical idea. Yes, it is that time of year. If you are interested in math; want to have fun doing math, while getting better at math, then MathCounts is the place to be. We will have our first get together on Friday, October 27 at 7:00 AM in the cafeteria. Ask your math teacher for an informational flyer. Stay tuned for more MathCounts news.  
  

• The field hockey team will be playing their annual foundation game on Thursday October 19th. This years foundation game will raise money and awareness for juvenile diabetes in which the body is unable to regulate blood sugar. The team will be selling blue beads for $1 starting Tuesday, October 17th in the main lobby. The team will also be holding a hat day on Thursday the 19th. If you would like to wear a hat during the school day please bring in a dollar and get a sticker for your hat in the main lobby. Baked goods and snacks will be sold at the game. All proceeds will go to the CT Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Thank you in advance for supporting this years team. We hope to see you out at the game on Thursday!
  

• ALL TEMS student are invited to "TAKE THE CHALLENGE" and sign up for this year's AMC-8 competition. The AMC-8 is a 25 question multiple choice, timed math test that will be administered at TEMS on Monday November 20th. Practice prep sessions will be scheduled before and after school for all interested participants. Registration forms are available in all MATH classes and on the TEMS homepage. For more information see Mr. Smith-Horn in room 307 or before homeroom in Stairwell "I".

• The first dance of the year will be this  Friday October 20th from 6:30-8:30 run by the TEMS coaches.  This dance will be our Halloween Dance, students are encouraged to dress up for this dance.  Remember no props or masks.  Tickets are $7 and go on sale Tuesday October 17th in the main lobby before school.  We will also be collecting non-perishable food items that night to be donated to the Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief.
  

• Do you like helping others? Are you interested in fun things? Would you like to be a supportive friend? If this describes you, then you should consider joining the extra curriculum club TEMS Friends. Pick up an application in room 301 if you are interested in this great opportunity. Completed applications are due on Monday, October 23 and can be handed in to Mrs. Silverman in room 301. The program meets Thursdays from 2:45-4:00 November 2 - December 13.

• We will be awarding our Walk-A-Thon prizes on Tuesday. What's up for grabs? A Pizza party!  Cash!  And Cross team lunches!!!  Who will win?   Here's a recap of the current leaders. For the $100 cash prizes,  Vincent Ryder from Lime is leading the 6th grade. Tony DeMartino from Scarlet is in the lead for 7th grade and Richard Collins from Pacific is in the lead for 8th grade. For cross team lunch Fridays in November, the 7th grade is in the lead but the 6th grade is close behind! For the Team pizza party, Lime is in the lead followed by Scarlet and Pacific. Time is running out. The donation deadline is Monday for our Walk-A-Thon, so be sure to get them in!

• The TE Field Hockey team extended their winning streak on the road with a 4-2 win over Suffield yesterday afternoon. Maliya Haddock scored in the opening minutes of the game with an assist by Kayden Burke. Josie Folly scored shortly after assisted by Anna Kim. Kayden fired in the third goal unassisted with Kelli scoring the fourth goal of the game with an assist by Maddy Riopel. Sophie Finer, Zoe Calhoun and Melissa Murdoch moved the ball up field well with great defense played by Grace Reed, Maya Lagasse, Molly Frank, Christina Belizzi and Avery Fournier. In the second game the Cougars were victorious again with a late goal by Anna Stapleton. Playing well in game 2 was Nicole Mann, Abby Bergstrom, Lily McCully, Grace Rich and Kaitlyn Hardy.

• The Girls Cross Country team ran against Ellington yesterday and suffered a loss of 22 to 35.  The cougars had a fantastic start to the race, with only one Ellington runner in the top 6, and TE ended strong on the steep downhill finish.  Coming in first overall was Audrey Manning, out front and all alone by 17 seconds.  Mayee Mavillapalli and Ella Heredia both had excellent races as they moved up several spots on the team.  Also running well was Amritha Suresh, who had one of her best performances ending the race in an all out sprint.  Speaking of all out sprints, the Drenga sisters, Katelyn and Alyssa, both had three Ellington runners right on their heels at the finish, but they must have made a pact to show no mercy as they both out sprinted the Ellington runners by mere seconds.  Captain Sophia Hollister cheered her heart out with Ciara Turco and Samantha Rowell who remain spirited despite persistent injuries.  A big thanks to managers Tracy Doan and Varsha Chilakapati who have been so helpful running the home meets and also came to our away meet to support teammates.  Great job to all runners, and good luck at your upcoming league meet! 
  

• The Boys Cross Country team added another victory to their season total on Wednesday afternoon when they had a strong win over Ellington Middle School.  Kyle Sullivan held off a sprinting Nikhil Kikanamada as the duo took the top 2 overall spots in the Cougars' 19 to 42 win.  Max Plunske crossed the line in the top 20 , followed closely by Nathan Grilli, both having their best finishes of the year, and Alex Belardi gave it his all on the finishing downhill for his fastest time of the year.  The win has the boys finish the regular season with only one loss and the team gets 2 weeks to prepare for the league championship race on the 25th.

• Our second annual TEMS Walk-A-Thon was a great success!   Students, staff, and the Cougar all had a fantastic time! Shout out to Mother Nature for holding off the rain.  We have big news to share today. As of last night, we exceeded our $18,000 school goal! Thank you to all TEMS students, staff, family and friends for your support in making our fundraiser a success! We will declare the individual, team and grade winners after the close of the pledge period next week.  But in the meantime, a shout out to Team Garnet for joining the $2,000 plus club and reaching their goal!!!  Vincent Ryder is still holding strong as the 6th grade leader.  Tony DeMartino is in the lead for 7th grade, and Richard Collins currently has the lead for 8th.  The Lime Team currently has the overall lead for the pizza party, but The Scarlet Team is close behind them! Keep up the great work!  Remember the pledge period will close next week on Monday October 16th.

• The TE Boys Soccer team played host to Ellington last night only to fall 3-0 to the Wildcats.  The first half started off like the last game against Illing, only the Cougars were unable to put a scare into the Wildcats as they stormed out to a 3-0 half time lead.  However, in the second half the Cougars ramped up their intensity and declawed the Wildcats attack, keeping them at bay for the second half.  Alex Magarian, AJ Faust, Xavier Crane, Aadi Dei, and Aryan Kalia pushed hard through the midfield and intercepted passes one after the other.  John Montana and Jake Gattuso pressed up front and gave the Wildcat defense trouble most of the second half.  The Cougars fall to 2-5-1 on the season with 4 games to play.  Up next the cougars play East Hartford next Tuesday.  If they win the remainder of their game they will finish above .500 on the season.  Come out and cheer on the boys.
  

• The Lady Cougars matched up against longstanding rivals Ellington in a physical game ending in a 1-0 loss. Throughout the game, the Cougars had a number of chances on cage, but couldn't seem to find the back of the net. Outstanding defensive play came from Megan Martin and Ellinor Edstrom as the duo consistently drew pressure and cleared the ball up the field. Scoring attempts in the game came from Lexi Wheeler, Emily Ledger, Marybeth Grasso, and Taryn Suffish. However, as it turned out the Ellington defense was too strong for the Cougar offense. Chances were had on both sides, but it was ultimately Ellington who took the victory. Cougars deserving recognition for their outstanding play included Maria Galley, Candace Walsh, Rhianna O'Meara, Lexi Lilly, Haydin Courtois, and Ella Suppicich.

• TE Field hockey team continued its winning ways with a 4-2 victory over Farmington. Kelli Mann came away with a hat trick with Kayden Burke finalizing the win with a goal in the final seconds of the game. Maliya Haddock controlled the midfield and also had an assist in the first half. Kayden Burke assisted on two of Mann's goals. Zoe  Calhoun played well at mid and in the circle. Molly Frank, Grace Reed, Maya Lagasse, Tori Jarvis, Kaitlin Hardy, and Grace Rich all played well keeping the ball outside their defensive circle. Giana Bellody, Nicole Mann, Alexis Dabrowski demonstrated superb passing on the offensive line. Isabelle Goodrich, Abby Bergstrom, Alexa Parada and Amanda Kozuira displayed great hustle on both ends of the field. TE travels to Suffield today.

• Tomorrow is our second annual TEMS Walk-a-thon.  For those of you who got sponsors and donations for our school, THANK YOU!!!  This is our only fundraiser for the year and your contributions are greatly appreciated.  If you have not gotten sponsors there is still time to do so.  This green sheet that is going home today will tell you how.  Please help support our PTO!!

• Not only are we walking tomorrow afternoon, we are also participating in a presentation called, “Campfel Productions”.  This anti-bullying presentation will challenge you to think about your words and actions and their effects on others.  Tomorrow plans to be a day for us to come together, learn something, reflect on how we behave and have some fun walking with our team mates.  Don’t forget to wear your new team t-shirts.  If you didn’t buy one, we have some extras for purchase in the office.  They are $7.00 – or you can just wear your grade level color – blue for grade 8; red for grade 7; and green for grade 6. Have a great day, do your best and ALWAYS STRIVE FOR FIVE plus ONE!

• The Timothy Edwards Cougars faced off against the Sage Park Chargers yesterday afternoon. The game started evenly match with both sides threatening to score. However, the Cougar press was too much for the Chargers to handle as Taryn Suffish intercepted a pass and found the foot of Sam Wunsch. Wunsch was cool, calm, and collected as she poked the ball into the back of the net bringing the score to 1-0. Outstanding tackling came from the 7th graders Iniya Raja and Emily Ledger as both players never quit and worked hard throughout the game. Additional chances in the first half came from Candace Walsh and Sarah Gordon. The Cougars came out a bit slow in the second half, but maintained the clean sheet with outstanding defensive play from Ellinor Edstrom Megan Martin, Haydin Courtois, and Ella Suppicich. In the second half, midfielders Rhianna O'Meara and Taryn Suffish contributed to the Cougar attack as each held three shots on the day. Late in the second half, Lexi Wheeler found the lower left corner off a penalty kick. The third and final goal came from a free kick as Wheeler demonstrated true composure again, sailing the ball over the top of the defending players and into the back of the net. The goal was said to remind fans of the blistering free kicks from the Real Madrid superstar Christiano Ronaldo. Maria Galley rounded out the team in goal making four saves on the day. Galley's exceptional play has kept the Cougars in close games and for the last two, she has kept two clean sheets. Galley's outstanding play has been vital to the Cougar's success. The Cougars attend their first away game against rivals Illing at 3:30 on Tuesday. Come show your support!

• The the boys soccer team played their final away game last night, traveling to Windsor to take on the Chargers of sage Park. The contest was settled early with five goals being scored in the first half. On the scoresheet were John Montana, Sam Melashenko, Andrew Bell, Brian Fishman, and Ben Bernstein. The second half was very similar to the first, however, the Cougars were more patient and probed well in attack. Four goals in the second half were scored by Andrew Monteserin who scored two goals, Dylan Hutton, and Jake Gattuso.  Trevor Lussier and four others were credited with the shutout. The Cougars next game is their first one at home this season on Tuesday. Come out and cheer on the boys!

• The School Store will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting next week.  The store will be open during lunch for grade 7 and grade 8 at this time.  Please stop by to see what items are being sold in the store!

• Do you know what time of the year it is? Time for Ghosts, Witches, and Jack-O-Lanterns? Yes, but it is also time for Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF! What is that? UNICEF is an organization that helps children in emergencies all over the world. You mean emergencies like hurricanes, earthquakes, droughts, and wars? Yes, and many other types of emergencies. TE is collecting money this month to donate to UNICEF.  I heard that last year TE raised over $600 for UNICEF.  Do you think we can meet or beat that amount?  It sure would help the children around the world! YES!  There is a Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF box in every homeroom.  Just bring in your spare change to make a change in a child’s life. Thank you, TE, for showing you care for others!

• With the Walk-A-Thon less than a week away, a shout out to our three current top fundraising students.  Tony DeMartino from Scarlet is the overall leader and has raised over $500 dollars for our school!  Close behind are Vincent Ryder from Lime and Lindsey Alemany from Sage.  Awesome job guys!!! Team Lime is in the lead for sixth grade and is also the overall leader with over $2000 raised!  Scarlet is in the lead for 7th grade and Pacific is in the lead for 8th grade. • There's great news to share today. As of last night, we have raised over $10,000 for the Walk-a-Thon!!! Thank you to everyone that has registered and has been working hard to get donations for our school! We still need your help.. We are still almost $8000 away from meeting our goal and just one week away from our Walk-a-thon. • Tuesday afternoon brought great running weather and 2 victories for the TE boys Cross Country team. Kyle Sullivan took the overall victory, leading the Cougars to a 19 to 41 win over Saint James and 15 to 48 over East Hartford.  Alex Matus ran to his best finish of the season with his 9th placing, and Owen Bushman continued his strong running with a top 15 spot.  Vaishnab Nanda used an impressive finishing kick to capture his best time of the year and Alex Turco ran a great race as he has improved his finishing time in each race so far.  The team will be looking to continue their winning streak next Wednesday when they travel to Ellington.
  

• The girls Cross Country team suffered a loss of 15 to 40 and celebrated a win of 15 to 50 at their tri-meet against St. James of Manchester and East Hartford last night at Nevers Park.  Audrey Manning led a strong TE pack taking 6th through 12th place in the race including Olivia Petgrave who came in 5th on the team and 9th overall, not allowing a broken finger stop her from taking 42 seconds off her season best time.  Anneliese Mills and Sophia Peruccio both busted out and had huge personal records by over a minute.  A job well done to all runners!  Good luck at your first away meet against Ellington next Wednesday.  

• The lady Cougars faced off against East Hartford yesterday afternoon at Cougar Stadium. The Cougars proved to be too well-rounded for East Hartford. The game was one of first's, as three of the goal scorers claimed their first goal as a Timothy Edwards Cougar. In the first half, efforts from Taryn Suffish, Iniya Raja, and Sarah Gordon were too much for East Hartford to handle. Only a few minutes after kick-off, Lexi Wheeler swung a threatening cross into the box finding the foot of the striker Candace Walsh to bring the score to 1-0. After that, the goals tumbled in as Taryn Suffish rounded out the half with another goal finding the bottom corner off an assist from Huntyr Courtois. In the second half, the Cougars evenly distributed the ball throughout the field with great midfield play from Emily Ledger, Emerson Iacovelli, and Rhianna O'Meara. Lexi Lilly found the back of the net twice yesterday proving that she is a valuable asset to the Cougars offense. Lilly's second goal was assisted by the captain, Lexi Wheeler, who led the team with two assists on the day. Shortly after, Emerson Iacovelli helped the Cougars increase their lead with a beautiful solo finish. Rounding off the scoring was was Emily Ledger who was assisted by Abby Peruccio late in the match. Peruccio and Ledger posted their first points as Cougars as well. Scoring chances late in the second half came from Mikayla Evans, Huntyr Courtois, and Sam Wunsch. Rounding out the defensive end, Ellinor Edstrom and Megan Martin were relentless in their efforts to keep the East Hartford offense at bay. Overall, a solid win by the Cougars as they look forward to Sage Park in their last home game of the season. The game takes place on Thursday at 3:30. Come out and enjoy what should be a great game!

• The TEMS Field Hockey team kept their winning streak alive yesterday with a 3-0 win over Avery Middle School of Somers. Scoring for the Cougars was Kayden Burke with an unassisted goal early, with Kelli Mann scoring two more goals with assists from Kayden and Sophie Finer. Emily Scola played very well with great communication. Greta Slater had a great game on defense stopping the charge toward the goal. Maya Swedock kept the shutout alive with a late save at the end of the game. Ria Saxena took the shutout with several great saves. In the second game the Cougars fought a hard offense and finished tied with Avery Middle School 0-0. Emily Osit, Amanda Kozuira, Morgan Reed, Giana Bellody and Abby Bergstrom played very well with several shots on goal. 

• Attention students in all grades: first yearbook meeting is this Thursday afternoon in room 123. Be there if you are interested in creating the 2018 TEMS yearbook. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students all welcome!

• The TE Boys Soccer team took on the Falcons of East Hartford last night and came away with a 1-1 draw on the night.  After controlling much of the play in the first half, TE were unable to capitalize on numerous chances in front of goal.  The Falcons pressed on and scored off a deflected shot in which Keeper Trevor Lussier could do nothing about.  After half-time, the cougars continued to press.  The falcons refuted the cougar attack until midway through the second half.  Ben Bernstein capitalized on a pass back in the box and buried his chance to make the score 1-1.  After continuing to put pressure on the Falcon goal, the final whistle blew as the Cougars felt they could have come away with all three points.  Jaideep Naik, Alex Magarian and Xavier Crane were steady once again in defense.  Jack Stricker and Dylan Hutton provided sparks of the bench.  The Cougars next game is Thursday night at Sage Park, their last away game of the season.
  

• TEMS will be holding our 7th annual Kenny Offiaeli Memorial Basketball Tournament on Friday  November 10th from 5:30-8:30 here at TEMS. This tournament honors the life of a former TEMS student and basketball player who suddenly passed away during his 8th grade year. The money raised from the tournament goes to support the Kenny Offaieli scholarship fund that is given to an 8th grade student each year at graduation. This tournament is open to any student at TEMS. You may pick up a registration packet in the main office or main gym. Forms are due by October 27th to the main office.
  

• Did you forget to order you TE team T shirt?  Good news:  The online store will be reopened until midnight Sunday.  To allow for the shirts to be available for the Walk-A-Thon Wednesday, the rush order will cost $7.  Please order today as no late orders will be taken!  We had over 450 kids order shirts already, so show your school spirit!

• With just over a week until the school wide Walk-A-Thon, we are half way to reaching our goal and we need your help getting to the finish line!  Our individual student goal is $40 or more.  It's easy to share your fundraising webpage over email and Facebook.  Share with grandparents, aunt, uncles, neighbors and friends.  Only four, $10 pledges will reach your goal!  Cash and checks are also accepted and may be brought into the school office with your name and team on the envelope.  Let's go Cougars and help us reach our goal!!

• The TEMS Field Hockey team traveled to JFK in Enfield yesterday and took home two wins. The first game was a 3-0 shutout with the first goal scored by Maliya Haddock. Kelli Mann scored the next two. Kayden Burke controled the tempo of the game in the midfield and had one assist. TE's defense frustrated the attack with great play by Maya Lagasse, Grace Reed, Avery Fournier and Melissa Murdoch. TE out shot Enfield by 12-1. Ria Saxena was credited with the shout out.

• The second game was a 1-0 victory with the only goal scored by Emily Osit. Greta Slater was stellar on defense with Isabelle Goodrich, Alexa Parada, Abby Bergstrom and Kaylee Guerrera distributing the ball well due to aggressive play. Sophia Flores was credited with the shutout.  The Cougars next game is home today against Avery Middle School of Somers.

• The girls cross country celebrated with a 2nd place trophy after the Harry Geraghty Invitational meet at Nevers Park Friday.  Audrey Manning was the first TE runner to cross the finish in 10th overall.  Kaitlyn Dempsky was only two seconds behind taking 27 seconds off her season best.  Nine girls from TE earned medals by finishing in the top 25 overall, including Katelyn Baumgartner who had a great race shaving well over a minute off her personal best.  Brooke Chagnon, Emma Metevier, Olivia Hedley, and Caroline Klein also beat their fastest times on the home course by over a minute.  Sixth grader Aricka Boosa ran her first race Friday after coming off an injury and finished 11th on the team, almost breaking into the top 25 overall.  Congratulations to the boys team who took home a trophy as well for placing first at the meet.  Good luck to all runners on Tuesday at your home meet against East Hartford and St. James.

• Congratulations to the boys cross country team for bringing home the 1st place trophy from the Harry Geraghty Invitational on Friday afternoon. With good running weather finally here, Kyle Sullivan ran a season best time and was the first TE runner to finish, coming in 2nd overall, and Ben Tortora's hard work continues to pay off as he crossed the line in 11th.  Carlo Papa continues to run faster with each meet and was rewarded with 24th place, one of the 11 Cougars to win medals for top 25 finishes.  Vincent Kuchipudi and Colin Heslin also ran strong races to bring home some hardware.  The team will test their fitness again with a home meet on Tuesday when East Hartford and Saint James visit.
