• Welcome back to another edition of TETV Morning News. Today is Thursday, November 16.

• All TEMS Debaters - Please attend a FULL Meeting after school today in the cafeteria. we will discuss the December 16th tournament and learn about how to better prepare a REBUTTAL during a debate. As always, NEW members are also welcome to join! 

• Thank you to all of you who have purchased dance tickets for this Friday's Neon Dance!  If you have not yet filled out the form to attend the dance, please make sure you do it today.  If you have filled out the form but have not purchased your ticket yet, please bring $10 to the lobby to secure your ticket.  The Neon Dance will have a quiet station in the library with bracelet making and puzzles in addition to music, face painting, and snacks in the cafeteria! Come join the fun!
  

• Thank you everybody for all your generous donations to the TE change leaders for Diabetes (and CCMC). We are still accepting contributions and will be open until November 30. If you've yet donated, please do and you will be provided with a bracelet and/or ribbons. Remember bracelets are 5$ and Ribbons are 1$.
  

• Don't forget sign ups for this year's musical, Finding Nemo Jr, are due tomorrow! Remember to bring the $30 participation fee to either Ms. Carver (room 145) or Mrs. Leveille (room 283). Audition materials have been posted in the Google Classroom. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Ms. Carver or Mrs. Leveille. 
  

• To celebrate Computer Science Education Week, the state department of education is offering a Women in STEM-C event on Saturday, Dec 2nd. Students will engage with STEM and Computer Science activities that focus on teaching team work, lateral thinking, and organization. • SAGA meets today after school immediately following dismissal. SAGA is a club for students in the LGBTQ community, but you don’t have to be a part of the community to join. All allies and supportive friends are welcome. So make a plan to stay after, arrange a ride if you're not taking the late bus, and bring yourself and a friend down to room 145 for our second SAGA meeting of the year! Not sure if SAGA is for you? Have other questions about what we do and how you can be involved? Contact Ms. Carver or stop by her classroom, room 145. Can't wait to see you there!
  

• Do you have an idea for music to  play at the end of the news? Well now TETV News is accepting music requests. Students and staff can click through this link https://forms.gle/iUEYVKjLzxqgk6ZS7 to submit ideas for music to play at the end of the news. All submissions must include a YouTube link and be school appropriate. We look forward to your ideas.
  

• Penny Wars will continue through the end of this week. Bring your loose change and donate to Connecticut Children's Medical Center. The team that collects the most money will win a movie day! Get those coins in, because the competition is on!
  

• Girls basketball tryouts will be held on November 27th and November 29th after school from 2:45 - 4:00.  Additional tryouts may be added at a later date. All participants must be registered through Power School and have a physician's statement on file prior to the tryout dates.  Students who to not have a physician statement will not be eligible to tryout. Any questions, please see Mr. Chandler in the main gym.
  

• Boys Basketball tryouts will be held Dec 4th through the 6th afterschool.. All tryouts will be in the main gym.  Plan to attend all tryouts.  Wear suitable clothing and basketball shoes (or sneakers).  All participants must be registered through Power School and have a physician's statement on file prior to the tryout dates.  Students who to not have a physician statement will not be eligible to tryout. • Attention 7th Graders…. We are excited to announce the Neon Dance which will be on Friday December 2nd. This is your first dance of the year, and a chance for all of 7th grade to come together and have some fun. So get out your brightest outfit and join us! More information to follow!

• If you missed the Entertainers general interest meeting yesterday and you're still interested in learning more about joining cast or crew, join the Entertainers google classroom using the code: vkhbmk3. Everything you need to know, including sign-ups, audition materials, and information about the show can be found in the google classroom. If you have any additional questions, email Mrs. Leveille or Miss Carver.
  

• Attention all boys and girls, we are excited to announce tryouts for the 2022-2023 TEMS cheer sideline and competition team.  Cheer tryouts are open to both girls and boys and will be held on 11/28, 11/30, and 12/1 from 2:40-4 pm in the small gym.  Please see the TEMS athletic page for registration details.  If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Edwards.

• Attention all students interested in trying out for the TEMS Basketball teams this winter. Boys Tryouts will be held November 28th and 29th - 2:45 - 4:00. Also on December 2nd if necessary. Girls Tryouts will be held November 30th and December 1st - 2:45 - 4:00.  Also possibly on December 2nd. Report to the main gym upon dismissal.  All attendees must have a ride for 4:00 or take the late bus.  Late buses are not available on November 29th.  Please make the necessary arrangements to be picked up for 4:00.  Students should wear athletic clothing and basketball shoes for tryouts.  
  

• Lost and Found is full, and it is full of your belongings. Please stop by the main lobby at some point this week to check for lost or missing items. Items will be displayed until next Wednesday, and then the lost and found will be cleared. Make sure you stop by to double check for your items.

• Welcome back to another edition of TETV News. Today is Tuesday November 16th and its National Button Day. So let’s celebrate the function of buttons and the hobby of button collection. Step aside those zippers, laces, and snaps and honor the button.
  

• Tomorrow is Wednesday Spirit day… This week's spirit theme is Thinking Cap day. So put on your favorite hat and write down 3 things you are thankful for. Looking forward to seeing all your favorite hats tomorrow.
  

• Today the Teen Center will be open from 12:30-3pm for drop-in hours due to the half day.

• Attention all students interested in trying out for the TEMS Cougars Cheer Team.  The TEMS Cheerleading Team practices daily after school, cheers at all home boys and girls basketball games, and competes at one local competition per season. Tryouts begin Monday, November 29th, Tuesday, November 30th, and Thursday December 2nd from 2:45-4:00. All sports forms with a doctor's note must be turned in prior.  Please email Mrs. Edwards with any questions.

• Attention boys and girls interested in playing TE Basketball. Boys Basketball tryouts will be on November 29th and 30th from 2:45 - 4:00 after school in the main gym. Girls Basketball tryouts will be December 1st and 2nd also in the main gym.  Students can take the late bus or players will be expected to have a ride home at 4:00 if tryouts are not on a late bus day.  Please see the school website for more information or speak to Mr. Chandler in the main gym.

• This is a Cougar Week.  It is a Day 2 for Grade 6 and a Day 5 for Grades 7 & 8. 

• Cassidy's Cultural Corner - Diwali - The Festival of Lights

Diwali is India's biggest and most important holiday.  Its name comes from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) placed in front of homes.  The festival celebrates the Hindu New Year.  It is a celebration of the victory of light over darkness and the triumph of good over evil.  

Diwali takes place every year in late October or early November, depending on the cycle of the moon. The festival starts two days before the new moon comes up.  In 2020, the Diwali celebrations go from November 12 through the 16.
